Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Dolcetto means “little sweet one” in Italian and is grown primarily in the Piedmont region of Italy. Our Dolcetto is sourced from the Dwelley vineyard just a few miles from Walla Walla Vintners. This fruity quaffer has a great following. The 2015 Dolcetto opens with aromas of strawberry rhubarb tart and black cherry with whisps of candied walnuts and vanilla dusted with cinnamon. Cherry continues on the palate backed with pomegranate and gentle tannins leading to a lingering fruit driven finish.
Ratings
Rating: Outstanding! 07/18/2016 "This Italian grape is rare in the Northwest, and Walla Walla Vintners winemaker William vonMetzger shows a deft touch with it. The fact that it comes off Dwelley Vineyard is no surprise consider our panels have awarded high marks to several wines made from this site in the foothills of the Blue Mountains in the past few months. Aromas of caramel, red cherry and plum spill into flavors of Bing cherry, huckleberry and vanilla. Gentle tannins give this youthful approachability. This won double gold and best of class at the fourth annual Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition, a scholarship fundraiser for Walla Walla Community College’s viticulture and enology program. It’s another example of the work being performed at Wine Press Northwest magazine’s reigning Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year." ~ Great Northwest Wine

Vineyard Notes
The 2015 vintage was one of the hottest growing seasons in the history of the Walla Walla Valley. Bud break occured two weeks earlier than normal with harvest ranging almost three weeks ahead of average. Ripe fruit and soft tannins make the 2015 vintage approachable now with structure to shine with extended cellaring.

Winemaker Notes
Dolcetto joined the Walla Walla Vintners stable in 2009 and instantly became a summer favorite. That first vintage sold out in a matter of weeks. Only a few short years later, this summertime sipper barely lasts through spring before selling out. With only an acre planted this will always be a limited quantity high demand wine.
